how do i go about separating 2 horses that have been together for 8 years, safely, just to go on a trail ride ,no other horses to leave them with?
Donna, I sympathize with your problem. I’ve known people who had to haul a horse’s best buddy with him to a show and keep him where he could see him. In order to enjoy your horse, you’re going to have to overcome this “inseparability.” If you’re in a boarding stable, ask for help. Try closing the other horse in his stall, with someone keeping an eye on him, and go for a short ride. Increase the time each ride. It’s fine for your horse to have a buddy and know that he’ll be there when he gets back. Good luck!
