Bill Long

Bill Long Driving. Copyright Nancy JafferBorn: April 19, 1945

Residence: Southern Pines, N.C.

One of the most experienced four-in-hand drivers in the country, Bill runs a training center and had stepped back from competition for several years. But he eagerly went back into the fray when former singles competitor Jack Wetzel approached him with an offer to take his coaching team of Dutch Gelderlanders and make a bid for the WEG.

The veteran of six world championships most recently finished sixth in the 2000 title match. At the age of 65, he says this will be his last world meet, though he will continue the training business that has been his main focus recently.

DiscoverHorses.com Columnist Nancy Jaffer's WEG Preview:

Bill has no thoughts about making the team at the WEG, but he has a good shot at earning one of the individual spots. His efforts with the Gelderlanders have been steadily improving as he works on their dressage. His experience would be a good resource for the other U.S. competitors at the WEG.
