  Most recently Rebecca won the 2012 National Para-Equestrian Championship aboard Lord Ludger. She was then named to the 2012 U.S. Paralympic Dressage team.

  Peters, Steffen

  Steffen and Ravel were ranked number one on the dressage short list for the 2012 London Olympics. They were officially named to the U.S. Dressage Team in July.

  Martin, Boyd

  At Rolex Martin finished third with Otis Barbotiere and was named the 2012 Rolex/USEF National CCI4* Reserve Champion. He also finished eighth with Remington XXV. He was on the Olympic short list with three different horses. In July he and Otis Barbotiere were named to the U.S. Olympic Eventing Team.

Dressage, in which horse and rider execute a program of intricate movements, is often compared to the fluid beauty of figure skating or ballet.

The combined driving event in the World Equestrian Games is a competition for four-in-hand drivers only–one driver, four horses, three exacting tests.

Endurance riding tests the speed and stamina of the horse–and the rider’s knowledge of pace and efficient and safe use of his horse.

Three days, three tests of one horse and rider team–dressage, cross-country and stadium jumping. It’s the ultimate test of horse and rider.

Jumpers are tested under various conditions over a course of obstacles that demonstrate the horse’s freedom, energy, skill, speed and obedience–as well as the rider’s horsemanship.

Para-equestrian events open the world of competition to riders and drivers with severe disabilities. Para dressage will be included in the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games for the first time.

Modern reining dates back to the Old West, where horses on working ranches needed to be sturdy, quick, responsive and agile in order to move cattle and other livestock across the range. Today it’s a fast and exciting sport.

In vaulting, gymnastic and dance elements are combined and performed to music on a cantering horse. This requires a harmonious relationship with the horse and outstanding physical condition in the vaulter.
