Three-time Rolex Kentucky winner Kim Severson is most closely identified with equine superstar Winsome Adante, who in addition to his Rolex hat trick was her partner for a team gold at the 2002 WEG, as well as the team bronze at the 2004 Olympics, where she also won the individual silver.
Kim, who grew up in Arizona, has been eventing since the age of 11 in Pony Club. Her years of experience have gone into developing a new partnership with Tipperary Liadhnan. The big gray 13-year-old Irish sport horse is a machine cross-country, but his show jumping has needed work. Kim has worked on improving that since coming into the final phase of Rolex Kentucky 2010 in second place and dropping six rails while incurring time penalties to wind up 24th.
DiscoverHorses.com Columnist Nancy Jaffer’s WEG Preview:
Being on the team puts Kim in a position where she has been before, but Paddy isn’t yet as reliable as Dan, her three-time Rolex winner. Kim has often risen to the occasion, and the WEG will give her the opportunity to do it in front of a home crowd that will be expecting a top effort in a test of her mettle.
