Moorlands Totilas’ gold medal musical kur performance for Edward Gal of The Netherlands at the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games turned out to be the last performance by the charismatic pair.
Moorlands Stables owner Cees Visser confrmed October 14, 2010, that the 10-year-old Dutch Warmblood stallion has been sold to German Paul Schockemohle, a former show jumper who is now a top European breeder of sport horses.
Gal began riding and training Totilas, whom he calls “Toto,” when the horse was five years old. He will continue to campaign other horses for Moorlands, but the owner’s decision to sell the equine star must have been a heartbreaker. The pair have set world records at every dressage level, and have drawn new audiences worldwide to the sport. During the Games in Lexington, Kentucky, Gal signed copies of a newly released book on Moorlands Totilas, published in The Netherlands.
Schockemohle has not announced whether the horse will compete again with a different rider or be used entirely for breeding. Totilas’ frozen semen has been sold and an embryo of his recently sold for 32,000 euros. –editors of DiscoverHorses.com
