What is the Pick 8?
The World Equestrian Games Pick 8 Contest tests your knowledge of equestrian sports and its competitors. You choose who you believe will survive the selection trials and ultimately succeed at the World Equestrian Games, a global equestrian competition held September 25-October 10, 2010, at Lexington’s Kentucky Horse Park.
In the Pick 8 you are awarded points for selecting the right competitors. Along the way you will find educational resources on equestrian disciplines and competitors to help you make your selections. The person with the most points at the end of each competition wins (see official rules below).
How to Play
The game is organized into eight sections, one for each equestrian discipline participating at WEG. Each of these sections have three selection slots, giving you three opportunities to score points in each discipline. At the bottom of the screen is a pool of competitor “cards” to choose from. Simply click and drag a competitor’s card to one of the three available slots.
Earning Points
Players earn points for correct selections, and the player with the most points wins. Points for correct selections are awarded by a calculation of the Base Points for a selection slot added to the competitor’s Bonus Points for a sum Total Points.
Base Points
First Selection Slot: 100 Points
Second Selection Slot: 75 Points
Third Selection Slot: 50 Points
Bonus Points
A competitor’s Bonus Points represents how “likely” it is that the competitor will win at WEG, as determined by how many participants in the Pick 8 game have selected him/her. Popular or likely selections have lower Bonus Points than unlikely competitors or “long shots.”
Total Points
A competitor’s Bonus Points may change rapidly as users make their choices. Since Bonus Points are based on the selections of all users, a particular competitor’s Bonus Points will vary throughout the duration of the Pick 8 game. As a result, your Total Points calculation will also change until the end date of each discipline’s selection trials. When the selection trials for a discipline is complete, all selections are locked in and the number of Bonus Points awarded is likewise locked in.
The number of points you can earn–the point value that will determine the winner of the World Equestrian Games Pick 8 Contests–is your Total Points earned for all three selection slots.
Eventing Wild Cards
The Wild Card allows you to pick “the field” of eventers qualified to compete at WEG that are not currently part of the “A” or “B” 2010 USEF eventing high performance training lists. Because applications for WEG are not due until after the first eventing selection trial at the Rolex Kentucky CCI****, there is a great likelihood that people other than those on the training lists will submit applications to be part of the U.S. Team. This card allows you to select those eventers.

Official Rules
NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. OPEN TO LEGAL RESIDENTS OF THE FIFTY STATES AND D.C., AGE 18 OR OVER. VOID WHERE PROHIBITED.
1. HOW TO ENTER: The 2010 World Equestrian Games Pick 8 Contest (“the Contest”), sponsored by the United States Equestrian Federation, Inc. (the “Sponsor”), begins February 23rd, 2010. The Entry/Submission Period ends September 25th, 2010. Entries must be received by September 25th, 2010(the “Closing Date”). To enter, go to http://www.clubequestrian.com/games/pick8/ and either login with an existing username and password or create a free username and password. Once signed in, the entrant can click on the logo for any of eight (8) equestrian disciplines and be taken to that discipline selection page. On the page for each of the eight (8) disciplines (dressage, jumping, reining, eventing, vaulting, endurance, driving, and para dressage), the goal is to choose the three (3) competitors that will make the Unites States Team for the 2010 World Equestrian Games (the “Team”) in that discipline. To do this, the entrant chooses three (3) competitors by dragging the picture of the competitor onto one of the available slots. The first slot is worth 100 points, the second slot 75 points and the third slot 50 points (the “Slot Points”). Additionally, if a certain competitor is deemed a “longshot,” then selection of such “longshot” competitor will earn the entrant “bonus points.” The determination of bonus points is based on the likelihood that a competitor will earn a spot on the Team in that discipline and the number of other entrants selecting that competitor. The bonus points are added to the value of the Slot Points. The total value able to be earned is 200 points for the first slot, 150 points for the second slot and 100 points for the third slot. Points are only earned on a competitor if that competitor makes the Team. An entrant may access his or her account at any time prior to the Closing Date and revise the competitor selections.
There is no fee to submit. By submitting an entry to the Contest, each entrant agrees to comply with and be bound by these Official Rules and acknowledges that the decisions of the Sponsor shall be binding and final in all matters relating to the Contest. Entries become sole property of Sponsor, and none will be acknowledged or returned.
2. ELIGIBILITY: The Contest is open only to individual legal residents of the fifty United States who are age 18 and over. The Sponsor reserves the right to verify and confirm entrants’ ages and compliance with other eligibility requirements. Any individuals who have, within six (6) months prior to the start date of the Contest or thereafter, been employed by or performed services (including but not limited to as employees, consultants, independent contractors or interns) for Sponsor or any other person or entity responsible for sponsoring, administering, advertising or promoting the Contest, or any of their respective parent, subsidiary, affiliated or successor companies, and immediate family and household members of such individuals, are not eligible to enter or win.
3. WINNER SELECTION: There shall be one (1) winner for each of the eight (8) disciplines (each, a “Discipline Winner”). Each Discipline Winner shall be the entrant whose three selections for the given discipline amass the highest point value. In the event of a tie, with multiple entrants earning the same point value, there shall be a drawing to determine the winner. In such drawing, a ticket for each entrant tied for the highest point value in that discipline shall be put in a container, and the winner shall be the first ticket randomly selected.
4. PRIZE: There shall be one prize offered for each Discipline Winner. The prize shall be “Authentic US Team Apparel and US Team Back Pack”, with an approximate value of $450. No substitution, cash redemption or transfer of right to receive prize permitted, except in the discretion of Sponsor, which reserves the right to substitute a prize of equal or greater value. Prize consists only of items expressly specified in these Official Rules. All expenses or costs associated with the acceptance or use of the prize or any component thereof that are not expressly listed in these Official Rules are the responsibility of the winner.
5. By entering, each entrant agrees that should this Contest be terminated for any reason such entrant irrevocably waives any right to seek and/or obtain rescission and/or equitable and/or injunctive relief. Sponsor is not responsible for lost, late, illegible, incomplete, damaged, mutilated, misdirected, misdelivered, or delayed entries, or for technical or human errors or failures of any kind in connection with the submission, transmission, processing or judging of entries, including without limitation any malfunctions or failures of computer hardware, computer software, networks or telephone equipment or any technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any website or any combination thereof. Sponsor is not responsible for any typographical or other error in the printing of the offer, administration of the Contest, or in the announcement of the prize.
6. GOVERNING LAW: By participating, each entrant agrees that: (1) any and all disputes, claims and causes of action arising out of or in connection with this Contest, or any prizes awarded shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action, and any judicial proceeding shall take place in a federal or state court within the Commonwealth of Kentucky; (2) any and all claims, judgments and awards shall be limited to actual out-of-pocket costs incurred, including costs associated with entering this Contest, but in no event attorney’s fees; and (3) under no circumstances will entrant be permitted to obtain awards for, and entrant hereby waives all rights to claim, punitive, incidental and consequential damages, and any other damages other than out-of-pocket expenses and any and all rights to have damages multiplied or otherwise increased.
