September 2010--Edward Gal and Moorlands Totilas were named grand champions at the CHIO Aachen (Germany) after winning three classes in a row. The pair was awarded the dream score of 10 by the judges 24 times, amassing a final score of 90.96%.

August 8, 2010--With more than just a USEF National Championship title on the line in 2010, the competition was fierce in the Collecting Gaits Farm/USEF National Grand Prix Dressage Championship as 15 horse/rider combinations also vied for selection for the U.S. Team at the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games.

July 30, 2010--El Sueño Equestrian Center was the site of the fourth Selection Trials for American vaulters on the road to this year’s WEG. With only one more Selection Trial here in the U.S. for teams, the USEF/AVA National Championships in Santa Barbara will be the place where all the stops will be pulled out.

July 22, 2010--The United States Equestrian Federation has named the following drivers to the Nominated Entry for the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games. From this group the Definite Entry (Team and Individuals) will be named to represent the United States in the Four-in-Hand Driving Championships.

July 21, 2010--The USEF Para-Equestrian Dressage National Championship and the USEF Para-Dressage Selection Trials for the 2010 WEG recently concluded. Of the 15 riders, 10 will be submitted for definite entry on September 30, 2010.

July 12, 2010--WEG veteran Shawn Flarida topped the competition at AQHA's Battle in the Saddle. He leads the U.S. reining team chosen for the 2010 WEG. The other three members, in order of placement, are Tom McCutcheon, Craig Schmersal, and Tim McQuay.

June 27, 2010--Long course leader Robin Brueckmann is looking forward to the prospect of competing at the WEG: however, she has another goal in mind this weekend. "It is very important to me to be able to maximize the performance of my horses while at the selection trials. It is also nice to get a clear idea of were are scores line-up under international judges prior to WEG."

June 26, 2010--In today's short course team test, Rebecca Hart earned both the first place and second place ribbons. Hart rode her trusty gelding Norteassa to the blue earning a 69.048 % overall. Hart also earned the second place ribbon with Kazan earning a 68.889% overall.

June 25, 2010--The third of five trials for the team spot was held at the Portola Training Center in Menlo Park, California. All five top teams competing for WEG slots demonstrate their artistry, as did individual competitors vying for the top USEF ranking spots.

While most final selection trials have yet to take place, here are some of the dressage competitors from around the world who are hoping to compete in the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games.

French riders to watch during the countdown to WEG are Jean-Philippe Siat and Marc Boblet, says FEI judge Bernard Maurel, writing for Dressage Today magazine. Siat is the current French champion with Tarski and Boblet is a top contender with his 2008 Olympic mount, Whitni Star.

The freestyle has sparked a lot of interest in dressage among Italian horse lovers, says FEI judge Dr. Vincenzo Truppa, writing for Dressage today magazine. Italy has invested in recent years in the development of young riders, and hopes are high that the country can field a good WEG team.

Nicky Turner of Equestrian Australia writes about the country's dressage team for the 2010 World Equestrian Games in Dressage Today magazine. The sport is increasingly popular in Australia, with 47 percent of the official competition horses registered to compete in dressage.

Most European federations will not be sending dressage riders to the WEG, says Wojtek Markowski, writing for Dressage Today magazine. Out of 20 Eastern European countries—not counting Russia, Belarus and Ukraine--only nine riders made it onto the FEI’s dressage rider ranking list. Only Poland and Hungary plan to send competitors.

Having the World Equestrian Games in the United States gives Latin American riders a better chance to participate, says FEI judge Gabriel Armando, writing for Dressage Today magazine. Puerto Rico, Brazil, Dominican Republic, Colombia and Mexico are likely to send dressage riders.

Writing for Dressage Today magazine, FEI judge Mariano Santos Redondo forecasts that Spain will draw from a wealth of homebred horses for its 2010 WEG team. Spain won a team silver at WEG 2004, using mounts that have since been retired.

The tiny country of Denmark has been a major player in European and world dressage circles since the 1950s. The Danish team that won the bronze medal in the 2008 Olympics is likely to represent the country again at the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games.

June 4, 2010--This year is the most exciting calendar year for the United States Para-Equestrian Team in history. It will be the first time ever that the para-dressage team will compete with all of the equestrian disciplines at the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games™ (WEG) in Lexington, KY.

Beginning July 6, the world's most talented horses and cowboys will compete in five Western disciplines at the inaugural AQHA Battle in the Saddle in Oklahoma City. The event is the USEF National Open Reining Championship and the reining qualifier for the 2010 WEG.

For the first time this year, the five vaulting teams declared for the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games met in competition. While this is the second of the five scheduled trials, it is the first where all the teams were present to compete.

April 26, 2010--Beezie Madden, of Cazenovia, N.Y., showed why she's one of the best show jumpers in the world in the $60,000 Kentucky Cup Grand Prix at the Kentucky Horse Park. She guided Danny Boy to a jump-off time of 38.37 seconds to defeat the three other riders who qualified for the deciding round.

February 23, 2010 -- The USEF High Performance Vaulting clinic was held February 20-21 at the Frankel’s Equestrian Center and the Garrod’s Equestrian Center respectively, both in the San Francisco Bay Area. This was in preparation for the 2010 WEG.
