Originally hailing from Texas, since 1999 Clark has been living and competing on the eastern seaboard of the United States and abroad in England and Europe.
He has been fortunate enough to train with numerous top riders and coaches over the years. Most recently they include David and Karen O’Connor, USET Chef d’Equipe Mark Phillips, his wife Sandy Pflueger Phillips and international show jumper Sharn Wordley. With a relatively small string Clark has over 60 top 5 placings since 2008 of which over 30% of those were wins.
He has been a regular fixture on the USEF’s High Performance training lists since 2001 and was the recipient of a 2011 Land Rover USEF High Performance grant which funded his trip to compete at Blenheim Palace CCI*** in England.
Montgomery has a 7th and 8th place finish in two events in 2012 and his best horse Loughan Glen was eliminated at Rolex. Nevertheless, the pair are short-listed for the 2012 London Olympics.
Clark is now the coach and trainer for international competitor and business man Carl Bouckaert based primarily out of his farm in Atlanta, GA.
