Date of Birth: 1978
Marital Status: Married
Occupation: Aide to state senator Lois Wolk

Born without a left hand, Treabess has been wearing a prosthesis since she was three. Undaunted, she skis, ice skates and has played soccer and basketball. She also played first base on a varsity fast pitch softball team.

Treabess began riding at age five, taking trail riding lessons.

When she was 12, she got her first horse, an American Saddlebred named Choco. She has studied under Tom Dorrance, David Hillman and her current mentor/coach,  Ellen Eckstein.

In January 2007 Katy and Dan Peterson loaned Treabess her present horse, a Dutch Warmblood named Moneypenny. The two have competing successfully ever since.

In 2008 Treabess was selected for the Developmental Rider list for the U.S. Para Dressage team. In 2009 she began training with world-renowned Steffen Peters.

Susan says one of her goals is to promote the sport and continue to compete in both able-bodied and para dressage events. She wants to help “pave the way for future equestrians for a stable source of funding and get support from the able-bodied in equestrian sports.”

Treabess feels that this generation of para dressage riders is indicative of how good the sport can become in this country.
